Still here

Well, I can't find the camera, which means no pictures today. But I thought a small update was in order. I still have not gone into labor, which many thought I would do over the weekend. So here I sit, one day away from the official due date with nothing but a big, uncomfortable belly. I went to teach today and that went well, but the kids are getting more impatient and apparently one of the girls called me a jerk today. Haha. First of all, only in elementary school would a teacher hear that because all the kids feel it is there duty to tell on everyone else! On top of that, do I even care? No. And this is why I am a jerk....because I demand fair play. Wow, I a must really be out there if I am the only person getting on the kids for cheating or playing unfairly. So, that's my story. There's not much else to report except that I know I have pictures I want to post...but alas, no camera.

A Kindergartener's View

A couple of weeks ago, just as I was finishing up my student teaching, one of my professor's put me in contact with the principal of an elementary school to try and set me up with an opportunity to teach as a PE specialist for the fall. Well, lucky me, the PE specialist that was supposed to finish out this year (meaning until the end of May), had to stop working. So this principal asked if I would step in until the end of the year (suppposing of course I don't have this baby early). So I accepted the position, hoping that all would go well. So far everything has gone very well, but it is also very trying because elementary kids are VERY different from middle school and high school, both of which I am the most used to teaching. Something that I noticed today also happens to be the inspiration for the picture I took just moments ago.
I had to go talk to the Kindergarten teacher today about the fact that I won't be teaching on Friday because I will be helping with a school activity. Well after I spoke with her I turned to leave and noticed a mirror with the exact view that you see above. I couldn't even see my face! I would've had to bend down or gone on my knees or something to see my reflection. I never realized that! Have you ever thought about it? Little kids, unless they are looking up into your face, just see the bottom half of you. It was such a funny thought!
Finally, while I am talking about my job, I might as well share some of the funny things that I have noticed about kids. First of all, they are hilarious. They make up these random things in order to obey rules. For example, I don't let the younger kids (Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd) go outside without me leading them out because there is a parking lot where they could potentially run and get hit. So I lead their lines out. Well this one class says that anything in front of the teacher is hot lava....they have to play this game so they can obey the rule of not going in front of me. So random and funny. Second of all, they always feel the need to tell me who is cheating, who hit who, that someone is butting in line etc. It drives me a little crazy! Just deal with it! Third, they have practically NO attention span. I guess I should have known that by now, but when you are dealing with 25-30 kids and none of them are paying attention! Holy cow, talk about learning patience! Anyways, it has been such a fun adventure so far and I love it. Hopefully this baby won't come until his due date so I can get some more experience teaching this age group, especially if there is a possibility I will be teaching next fall!

Baby Shower and baby names!

Well I couldn't find very many pictures from my baby shower that I liked a lot so I decided to go with the two best ones. My baby shower was so much fun and there was some really good food that Susan and her sister Jane made. Yum! I am so glad that so many friends and family members came. It felt so good to be around people I love and celebrating a momentous, soon to be occasion that will be happening in my family...the birth of my son! My goodness that sounds so weird, my son! Anyways, I got some very neat and thoughtful gifts, including some very creative ones. For example, this picture on the left is a bib, but not any ordinary bib, it was made out of a hand towel and the whole for the neck can stretch to fit over the baby's head. Maybe I just haven't been to enough baby showers, or maybe I just don't know enough people who are skilled and creative, but I thought that was a pretty sweet little bib. Who knows though, maybe it is entirely impractical? I guess I will have to see, and I will let you all know. Ha, isn't that conceited of me to think that people might actually care about whether that bib worked or not? Oh well. The picture below was taken with a good friend of mine, Jamie. She and I met freshmen year and ended up in the same major, going on missions at the same time etc. She is great and I love her! As for other attendees, I must admit that I loved
seeing my cousin Heather, some family friends, and my mom! She stuck around after graduation just to be able to attend. I owe her so much! She and my dad helped a ton while they were in town, not only providing some very delicious food, but also helping me hang pictures, go shopping, and think about the baby. Truthfully, and I know this may sound harsh, but I have been so busy finishing school and student teaching that being pregnant was just something about me. It has not been all consuming and I definitely have not spent oodles of time prepping for the little guy. Thank goodness some people can bring me back to reality by asking, where is he going to sleep? Do you have a car seat (thanks to my sister, she has also been a complete life saver!)? You know, things you would expect an eight month pregnant woman to already have or have thought about. Not the case with me, sorry if I am a disappointment to all you moms! Oh, and going along on this baby topic, Kory and I have yet to decide on a name. Probably because some months back we made a list and then crossed off the ones we didn't like as much etc, you know the drill. Well, I lost the list. These past few weeks I have been searching everywhere for it because the name question comes up a lot these days. So last night, I gave up my search and decided to just go through every boy name I could find on the internet and make another list. Last night was irritating for that reason because I knew that my list was already a short one, but it was MIA. So, I looked at my new list this morning with joy and dread because let's be honest, I had to re-eliminate names. Here comes the irony....Kory calls me when he gets to school to tell me he found the original list. Yes, he found the original. The day after I had just gone through hundreds of names, he found the list, in his math book of all places!!!!! Talk about ironic. So we have the list, but since this morning, have not eliminated any more, but we are getting closer, rest assured of that!
